“Some 1.5 million Chinese have been forced from their homes during preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, a rights group said Tuesday.”

In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Chinese communist government is displacing about 1.5 million Chinese citizens. They are being forced from their properties and put on the streets with no place to go with little to no advance warning and compensation from the government severely lacking. 1.5 million is almost three times the population of Washington D.C. That means that every single person in D.C. would suddenly be homeless. Everybody.

This is not the first time this has happened however. The 88 games in Seoul displaced over 700,000 people. And the 96 games in Atlanta, Georgia; 30,000 displaced, public housing units demolished, and homelessness criminalized. yep, “Atl Shawty.”

It seems as though the Olympics are becoming another excuse to speed up the gentrification process in large cities across the globe. Sadly but surly, the “Darwinistic” survival of the fittest philosophy is making its way in the world.
